Carlos is a fourth generation coffee producer, his great-grandfather was the first to arrive in the area and he has a long line of uncles and cousins with farms neighboring his own. Carlos' father runs a larger farm and inherited these 7 hectares of land in the nearby hamlet called Malicate. He bought a property in El Cañón three years ago and converted it into what today is known as Gollita Farm (in honor of his grandmother). Carlos will focus this farm on the production of micro-lots of the Parainema varietal.
Carlos, now 29, is married to Wendy and they have a two year old child named Carlos Miguel. Carlos and his uncle Wilson, president of the Emanuel Association, work closely to help producers in the area gain access to better prices and explore specialty coffee markets. To diversify his income, Carlos has 1,500 certified trees, which one day can be sold as wood, as well as bananas, avocados and eggs from his agricultural farm.
