Buna Boka is one of the primary cooperatives of the Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, and one of Ethiopia’s best known. This union has over 80,000 member households and 53 coffee co-ops and many of these with two or more processing sites. With an average of one single hectare of land for every farmer member in Buna Boka, most of their harvest will be fully washed with delicate and citric flavour profiles.
Buna Boka is both certified Fair Trade and Organic, certifications that are easily earned in this area. Due to the smallholders conscious business plans and organic farming methods. These certifications secure price protection for the farmers, helping to gain small but meaningful leverage in the marketplace.
