small farm • Carmo de Minas, Sierra de Mantiqueira

Fazenda Santa Helena is located in Carmo de Minas, in the south of Minas Gerais, in the Sierra da Mantiqueira region. It has an altitude of 950 to 1,300 masl. Amazing soil quality and exceptional climate for the production of specialty coffees. Not to mention the farms well kept natural surroundings being totally preserved to deliver breathtaking landscapes for visitors. The family is in the fourth generation of coffee producers, Ernane and his sister Eleny manage the farm. The farm is not mechanized, so all crop management is done by hand. This ends up generating a higher cost in production, but shows through in the high quality they produce because of the extra care that has been taken during all stages or production.

Great beginner's specialty coffee

Excellent coffee for those just getting into fancier coffees. Sometimes the lighter roasts are a bit too acidic and floral for those coming from years of starbucks! This was the first specialty coffee that made my boyfriend actually admit that it was better quality. Lovely low acidity and deliciously nutty and full bodied.

Amazing

My new go-to coffee! Great body, low acidity and very balanced when using my v60. Happy to support these fine folks in Nelson as well.

Exceptionally well balanced

This is one of my favourite coffees! An extremely balanced cup with relatively low acidity (but is present and pleasant). Good body. Brewed with v60.

Feels like a weekend coffee for the weekday

Due to the price point I bought this to use as an everyday coffee, but it tasted just as good as our "fancy" (ie. expensive) weekend coffee.
Used in a Chemex with a paper filter, the caramel and chocolate really comes through. Great value, and I'm happy to support small town Nelson.

Amazing coffee

My second favorite coffee for pour over !

Excellent

This is one of my favourites. I brew a pour over using a metal filter, with a slightly finer grind than normal. Just perfect.

Chocolate

I have yet to be disappointed with a NO6 coffee so far. I've been brewing mostly in the new Hario V60 switch and it seems to bring out a nice balance of chocolate with a hint of nuttiness.
