We are thrilled to be bringing you this coffee from The Peixoto family.
The Peixotos, lead by Neide, are working hard to get more recognition in the specialty industry and are focusing on getting fairer prices for their coffee.
For a couple of harvests, they were often paid in goods and equipment, even though their coffee are stellar.
This coffee is extremely clean and well processed. It tastes like hazelnut and orange crème brulée, with a chocolaty finish and a heavy mouthfeel. It’s a medium roasted coffee with a classic profile. The perfect bridge for new specialty coffee drinkers, or people in need of a solid and tasty daily brew.
The Peixoto family was one of two families featured in Phyllis Johnson book ‘’The Triumph: Black Brazilians in coffee’’.
Phyllis is the president of BD Imports, and the founding director of the Coffee Coalition for Racial Equity. The profits of her book are going to the CCRE and back to the farmers featured in her book.
The history of coffee in Brazil is one linked to slavery, and it is still hard for black coffee farmers to own land as they are so often relegated to the role of sharecroppers. If you want to learn more, we have a couple of books left!
