With improvements to both the motor and burr chamber, the second generation of the Varia VS3, still boasts precision stepless grind adjustments using a fine pitched thread with 0.02mm (20 microns) of relative burr shift per adjustment increment. The stepless adjustment is operated by turning the 30g hopper in the desired direction and can achieve virtually endless particle sizes giving you full access to experimenting with your brews.

Varia created the VS3 Grinder for optimal grinding that meets even the highest demands and is suitable for many preparation methods, from espresso to pour-over to French press. The Varia VS3 Grinder is the best choice for every home barista.

    Zero Retention Focus
The Varia VS3 (Varia Stepless 38mm) Electric Grinder utilises a sloped geometry with a 76.5° acute angle. Using this geometry also allows for ideal zero retention conditions as well as a better workflow in relation to adding coffee to the hopper, making grind adjustments, and 180° access to the dosing cup. Purging will not be necessary when grinding different coffees with a retention of less than 0.1 over a 10g dose.

    A Refined User Experience
A minimalistic approach to the user experience allows for an expression through fine details. Integrated magnets in the hopper lid securely connect it with the hopper as well connecting the dosing cupto the base. Non slip silicone feet are also installed on the base of the VS3 to keep it secure to your counter.

    CNC Machined Precision
Die-cast space-grade aluminium alloy body and all critical parts are CNC machined (Computer numerical control machined) to 0.02mm precision tolerances providing absolute accuracy and stability when making adjustments and grinding. The main axle and driveshaft is supported by P5-grade angular contact bearings to achieve the most uniform particle size results.

    VS3 2nd Generation Motor
New motor construction with full stainless steel gearbox construction. 190RPM grind speed ensuring speed for espresso and filter settings. Uncompromised consistency and precision.

Improved Burr Chamber Assembly and Central Alignment
Improved burr chamber assembly for ultimate alignment and concentricity of the driveshaft and burr set resulting in extreme consistency and precision. Unique to the VS3 the driveshaft is machined to a 0.015mm tolerance. All other critical parts machined to 0.02mm making for high accuracy and consistency. P5 class double layer ball bearings for smooth, stable and precise movement. Hard chamber premium springs for stability an damping of the burr under resistance load. Decreased vibrations and movements of the internal parts increasing consistency.

Great grinder at a great price

Very little waste and very little noise. The grinding consistency is pretty good.

Outstanding performance for money; static is only issue

This grinder is outstanding in terms of performance, consistency, especially with very fine espresso. It performs better than grinders that are significantly more expensive. It's also the quietest electric grinder I've ever had. Only issue is the static mess is a big problem (particularly noticeable in the white model!). Otherwise no complaints.

Incredible value, unbelievably versatile

I've been using this for three weeks and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. It's consistent, quiet, easy to use, looks great, and — most importantly — helps me make amazing coffee. Every day my wife and I use it to make a espresso, a moka pot, and a V60. I also used it to make cold brew recently, and I think it excels at everything I've thrown at it.

I previously had a Baratza Encore with an upgraded M2 burr, and the VS3 is like teleporting to another universe. The Encore is a great grinder, but everything about the VS3, down to details like the packaging, is just an all-around better experience. It's MUCH quieter, it does espresso easily, it looks fantastic, it takes up less space, it's easier to clean, and it retains next to nothing, no matter the grind settings... this might be the perfect grinder, at least for me. I know $400 isn't cheap, but for everything this offers I truly think it's a bargain, especially given its size and ease of use.

Other than a silicone bellows (which I leave off the grinder and beside it, only occasionally using to blow out EVERY LAST GROUND), everything on this grinder is extremely high quality and stainless steel. They also give you everything you need to clean and service the grinder in the box, including some spare parts — a nice touch. It even came with an RDT bottle that's either sturdy glass or very thick plastic, and I was shocked at the quality of that too.

Some reviews report the grind size moving while grinding, but that hasn't been a problem for me. Apparently they now have grease on the threads that helps hold it in place, and mine has been incredibly consistent.

I guess as far as products go I'm still sort of in the "honeymoon phase," but I can honestly say: I use this thing every day, two to three times a day, and it brings me joy every time I do. Worth every penny and I would handily recommend to anyone with an espresso machine who also likes pour overs.

Great price for a great grinder

Love the Varia VS3! Minimal foot print and sleek

Great Grinder

I've only had it for a week now, but it is a fantastic piece of kit. Are there better grinders out there? Sure, but for the money, I don't think you'll find a better value grinder that also looks and feels premium.

Powerful, efficient, and quiet.

I’ve been thoroughly impressed with my VS3. The ease of use and setup was very refreshing, but second to that, it’s VERY quiet compared to other units I tried out. At this price point I’m not sure you can beat a single dose grinder. My only critique after a month of use is that the static retention is still present, and creates more cleanup. The booklet says this should go away after roughly 5kg of coffee has been ground.
Still, can’t think of a way to beat this price & performance combination.

Moni (Ontario, Canada)
Great Grinder for a God price

I’ve had the Varia Vs3 for a couple weeks now and it’s been great. I was hesitant because of some negative reviews but so far it runs great. It’s pretty quiet and the grinds are super consistent. It’s a little messy without using any RDT. Customer support from 8oz was great with lots of communication and quick responses.
