Prodigal Coffee

Prodigal Coffee was founded by Scott Rao and Mark Benedetto. After meeting at SCA Expo in 2017, Mark hired Scott to consult for his San Francisco roasting business. They then became friends, discussing coffee daily. In 2021, they decided to launch Prodigal Coffee together in Boulder, Colorado. Prodigal aims to provide beautiful, clean, light roasts with impeccable consistency. While many roasters offer light roasts from high-quality green beans, Prodigal’s strict QC process sets them apart. They choose green beans based on blind cupping, only purchasing lots scoring above 87.5 points. All roasts must meet tight weight loss and colour targets and pass through an optical sorter to remove immature beans. They taste every roast batch blindly to ensure high standards. Prodigal pays one of the highest average green prices in the world, respecting their suppliers’ work. Their rigorous QC protocols ensure great value for their customers.
