Tasting Notes: Maraschino Cherry, Strawberry Jam, Dark Chocolate

Produced by the innovative Sebastian Ramirez at El Placer, Black Forest is a decaf that defies all conventional expectations. This Caturra lot undergoes a sophisticated double anaerobic fermentation, during which it is co-fermented with dehydrated strawberries to infuse the beans with intense fruit aromatics. Following this "funky" processing, the coffee is decaffeinated using the Ethyl Acetate (Sugar Cane) method, which preserves the structural integrity and complex flavors of the bean. The result is a decadently layered cup that lives up to its name, offering concentrated notes of strawberry jam and maraschino cherry set against a rich, mousse-like dark chocolate base with a subtle hint of liqueur.

This co-ferment decaf delivers exceptional chocolate and cherry notes that customers said taste "like Black Forest cake." Praised as "the most amazing decaf" with easy extraction and rich flavor. Some customers prefer a lighter roast profile over the medium-dark roast. Minor issue: label printing runs when wet.

Tasty decaf

Fresh and fruity decaf, I get dark chocolate and red berries notes.

Decaf of my dreams

You forget you are drinking decaf, because it’s that dang good. Chocolate finish is so cake like and that lift of cherry just keeps you crushing on it. I like it black, but also as a beautiful cappuccino to cozy up with.

Love co-ferment decaf, would much prefer lighter roast

Really love that it's co-ferment decaf, but would much prefer a lighter roast profile (it's medium or so).

It really tastes like Black Forest cake!

This is my third time ordering this one I like it so much. Nice to have the fruity fun of the cherry but it still ends up being chocolate cake-y in the finish. Would buy again, would buy for a friend. Only note is that the printing on the label runs really easily if you get the outside of the bag wet, including from condensation after removing from the freezer.

Fruit bomb.

This one is a bit intoxicating. Very easy to extract. A bit one note, and there is a certain taste from the darker roast that I don't love, but it helps to balance the otherwise intense berry notes. I started blending this in a smaller proportion with a cleaner, "normal" washed decaf to temper the co-ferment intensity of this and the simplicity of the washed.
