Looking for a cloth filter for your CHEMEX®? This is the one!

Using soft, organic cotton, this CHEMEX® filter is hand-sewn in the USA. It fits on any CHEMEX® (apart from the 3 cup pint size), and comes in a pack of two - so you've always got a spare.

We love the difference this filter makes. Not only are you reusing your filter, you're also creating a totally different flavour profile than you would get with paper or metal filters. Cloth filters allow more oils through, and therefore give you more body - without sacrificing complexity.

    • Fits all CHEMEX® Coffee Makers except 3 cup pint sized (not included)
    • 100% Made in USA by Coffee Sock
    • Organic cotton
    • Two filters per pack
  • Cleaning Instructions:

    • compost your grounds (great for your soil)
    • turn your sock inside out and rinse with hot water
    • squeeze out excess water, and hang up to dry thoroughly between uses. this is all the cleaning that is necessary with ordinary use

To further sanitize occasionally, or as necessary:

    • boil for 5 minutes
    • or run through dishwasher
    • or soak in water and microwave on high

Customers praised this reusable cloth filter for producing "rich smoothness" and great-tasting coffee with no sediment. Many said it performs "just as good if not better than paper filters." However, some noted it requires more maintenance than paper, needs technique adjustments for proper extraction, and brews faster. Easy to clean but less convenient than disposable options.

Great taste

Great taste, easy to clean

Cloth is amazing

These filters are high quality, and offer paper like clarity with a rich smoothness that is hard to describe. I am following James Hoffman's method of taking care of it, so far so good.

Awesome filters - work just as good if not better than the paper filters.

Great

Some of the best coffee I’ve ever made has been because of this and a Chemex. I haven’t even used the second filter and figure it’ll be a good while before I need to. Everyone should have a filter like this.

Interesting product, fun to use, not as convenient as paper filters

I like the coffee sock. You would be a good candidate to buy a coffee sock if any of these statements apply to you: 1.) you like to make pour overs and already own a Hario V2, Chemex, etc. 2.) you own a burr grinder and like to experiment with different grind sizes, 3.) you are fascinated with how coffee can express wildly different flavours through variety and terroir, and brewing method, 4.) there is a global pandemic and you cannot find any retailer that carries Chemex paper filers and need a substitute. If you want to mix things up and have $15 that you don't mind parting ways with go for it. If you like convenience and don't like washing things, then I'd say stick with paper filters.

Brilliant idea!

I was so pleased to learn of the 'coffeesock' filter when I ordered my Chemex. I'm loving it ... pack of two, simply wash and reuse. Brilliant idea.
Shipping and delivery was fast. Thank you.

Brews perfect coffee and you get a pair

I bought this as a backup for when chemex filters are out of stock which I’ve noticed is quite frequent. This brews perfect chemex coffee. I’d use it everyday instead of paper filter if cleaning wasn’t an issue but it still is a perfect backup.

Coffee Sock

Love this product! Easy to use & clean. Dries overnight & ready to use in morning. Makes a great cup of coffee. Really happy with it & my Chemex.

Does the job

If you're expecting this to be a straight swap with a paper filter with regards to recipe and technique, you'll be sorely disappointed. However, with a little patience you can refine the technique to get a brew approaching that you would get from using Chemex-branded filters. That said, it'll never be as clear or as smooth; a small amount of fines will get through, and I find that even after letting those settle, it still tastes muddy relative to paper filters.

Nevertheless, I'd say that it gives a better brew as a substitute/reusable filter than a metal one. Take care to thoroughly rinse after every brew, and boil for the recommended duration weekly, both for sanitation and to minimize oil buildup.

Great replacement

I wouldn’t say for a second that it makes as good of a cup as paper, I can’t dial it in. That being said, the coffee is good and it’s worth the environmental and economic savings for myself.

Good for fast brews...

Normally, I've used Chemex paper filters (prefer the brown paper), and had excellent extraction/brew results with excellent clarity and a very bright and clean flavour.
I purchased these cloth filters as most places are out of the Chemex paper filters.
My major concern is the rapid brew process compared to paper filters, I've adjusted to a finer grind, tried to lower the amount of water I have in the filter at a time while trying to maintain thermal mass. Long story short, I have not been successful at getting the extraction dialed in to what I have achieved with paper filters. The coffee is good, but when you know what you can achieve with a paper filter, the cloth results are a 3/5 in comparison.
Clean up is far more work, James Hoffmann recommends storing the cloth filters wet in the fridge between uses to avoid mildew and contaminating your brews. It's a lot more work that just grabbing the used paper filter with the coffee grinds and putting it in my compost bin.
It works.... the results are good.... but as soon as I can get my paper filters, I'm going back. I'll donate the 4 socks I own to someone else at that point.

So far so good!

Easy to use. I am a new user to chemex, therefore I’ve never got the chance to use the filters since they're on back order. Nonetheless, this seems to create less waste and with thorough wash and using a soft tip brush you’ll be able to get good coffee.

Fantastic

Really easy to use, I recommend using James Hoffmann method to use cloth filters. Always clean with that method and never smell.

Great Product

I ordered these as everywhere was sold out of paper filters, and figured I would use these in the meantime, and in the future when getting paper filters is difficult. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that these perform just as well, if not better, than the paper ones! I love these filters, and will probably exclusively use these going forward.

Good For Environment Maybe Not the Taste

Exactly as the title says. 4/5 for the reusable filter but I would give it a 3 or 2/5 for the taste it holds onto. If you just want a filter you can reuse every morning before you head to work this will be sweet, but if you are trying different single origin and more delicate coffee I would stay away from these, try the KONE filters or stick to the paper.
