The BT Wedge Coffee Distribution Tool will greatly improve the quality and consistency of your espresso. Higher quality espresso means higher quality of life, right? Maybe. The proprietary wedge shape evenly distributes ground coffee in your portafilter basket without prematurely compressing it. The BT's depth can easily be adjusted by twisting the center spacer, and the high polish base eliminates coffee retention to the tool - keeping the espresso in the basket where it belongs. Made from precision machined stainless steel and inlaid with your choice of American hardwoods and finishes, this tool works great and looks great on your coffee bar.

A Little History on the BT Distribution Wedge

The Wedge was originally designed by Mr. Il Seon Jeon of Seoul Korea. Mr. Jeon is the owner operator of the progressive Gabae Mihon coffee bar in Seoul. He was an early admirer of the well known OCD tool and the core concepts behind it. However, he had ideas to push the concept further. Mr. Jeon was focused on two elements for improvement.

    1. Minimize the pre-tamping of the coffee prior to proper ground distribution.
    2. Eliminate ground retention on the distributor tool itself.

In February 2016, Mr. Jeon conceived the idea of the wedge shape distribution tool. He built and refined prototypes and soon found the high polish wedge shape to work remarkably well. He sent prototypes to Australia for friends and critics to evaluate. Needing to compete with the tools already on the market that had copied his design, he decided that he would introduce a version of the wedge shape distribution tool that was superior in design and build quality to all currently available models. This is when Mr. Jeon contacted Saint Anthony Industries and proposed that SAI take his proprietary wedge shape design and incorporate SAI's design aesthetic and material aesthetic to make a distribution tool that is second to none. After thoroughly testing the wedge shape design, SAI found it to be a highly effective tool. And we like it a lot.

An espresso distribution tool that levels coffee grounds before tamping, praised for solid weight, quality craftsmanship, and improving extraction consistency. Customers said it "guarantees even puck density" and reduces channeling. Some noted it's pricey and may have loose fit issues. Well-made with walnut finish, though grinds can stick to sides.

Very sturdy and useful tool!

I first bought the (OCD's Knockoff) then I bought this (BT Wedge) and then the (OCD V3) here too. I'd say that it is a different method of obtaining the same results. It works really well and I love it's heavy weight, plus the stainless machining on this tool is just perfect and breathes quality. However why I knocked off a star it's because the wood piece looks much worse than it is on every official pictures "Walnut", you will also need a "Cafelat 58mm Silicon" thingy otherwise the tool will rest sideway and this is bad for my OCD issues, plus it is not graduated when you try to adjust it. I will prolly just gift it tonight to my mom but honestly, weither the BT or the OCD's V3, both are on par and the 2 best leveling tool on the market imo.

BT Wedge

Excellent distribution tool to gently level the surface of the puck prior to tamping. I have both the distributor and tamper from SA and they're well made and beautifully designed pieces especially in walnut.

I'd say compared to the other "58

I'd say compared to the other "58.3mm" device I have (a tamper), this particular device has a lot more wiggle room and space, and comparable to other 58mm devices. I was hoping for a nice tight fit but I did not get it.

The piece is otherwise well-made and the measurable depth of leveling is nice.

Works nicely- but expensive

It’s pricey for what it does. But I do enjoy it.

Works great

I like this tool very much. Has a nice weight to it and feels nice in the hand. Works as intended and fit the e&b labs super fine and the Big Bang filter baskets great. Would’ve bought the palm tamper as well but it wasn’t in stock.

A bit narrow

Works pretty well but the grinds get stuck on the sides and makes a bit of a mess

A lifetime keeper

I received great advice from the team to use this distributor before using a tamper. And the Saint Anthony Industries BT distribution tool is just amazing. The weight alone is solid, its easy to use and extremely precise. I would highly recommend without a doubt. Excellent.

I replaced my OCD due to coffee grounds sticking to the surface of the OCD during use. The Saint Anthony Industries BT distribution tool is a step up from my previous tool. Coffee does not cling to the polished surface and the weight of the tool feels good when using. The tool works well.

A highly effective, precisely crafted, expertly honed tool that will likely outlive me.

Because I've spent years refining my roasting, measuring, grinding, initial distribution, tamping, and extracting techniques, I was skeptical about the benefits of using a chisel redistribution-leveler tool. Never expected this to make a noticeable difference, but it does. Taste is my only guide when changing/adding to techniques. Used correctly, this tool virtually guarantees even puck density for flawless tamps, resulting in dependably even extractions and more balanced, enhanced bean flavours. Calibrating the chisel is crucial: if the base depth is too shallow, the grind is pulled instead of leveled, resulting in increased air pockets and channeling even after tamping. If the base depth is too deep, there isn't enough sideways movement and they're instead pushed downward, resulting in uneven puck density. An accurately set chisel base depth provides just the right amount of downward and sideways redistribution while still allowing additional downward compression during the tamping stage. The quality and craftsmanship of the BT Wedge is absolutely superb.

Beautifully made

This distributor is beautifully made, feels lovely to hold and has taken all the guess workout of tamping the perfect shot. Would absolutely recommend to anyone passionate about their coffee

Great distribution tool.

Gives you a completely level bed of coffee ready for tamping. This definitely helped reduce channeling and uneven extractions for me. Also coffee doesn't stick to it!

Perfect Distribution with a Beautiful Tool

I absolutely love my BT Tool. My the built in grinder in my Barista Express pushes very clumpy grinds in the portafilter, which are very hard to distribute evenly by hand. The BT tool takes care of this and perfectly distributes them before tamping. The quality and especially consistency of my espresso has really improved. This tool is also beautiful and a joy to use. Would heartily recommend. It's worth the price.

Perfect tamping every time

It's not cheap, but when you are pulling shots daily it's definitely worth it.

It's a great little hefty gadget that does the trick!

Been using the BT wedge ever since I receive it but there's one minor nitpicking. When I give the wedge a couple of spin, the levelling of the ground is not symmetrically even. So I have to tamp it afterward to make it flat out like a bedded puck. The result improves a lot when I start reusing the single walled filter basket. It pours out more liquid which lasted between 26-33 seconds top! Without the distribution tool, the shot will pour out fast and lasted 18 seconds! The taste was bitter and sour at the same time. With the tool, the taste is a lot brighter and refining.
I'm a believer now!

I don't really write reviews but this tool surpassed my expectations! I mourn all the shots that have sprayed unnecessarily before the BT Wedge came into my life!

An expensive, but well-made tool

You can feel the quality of workmanship that went into this tool. There's a solid heft, the wood is well varnished, and the stainless steel is machined and polished perfectly. It's a luxury item, for sure, that might be more useful in a cafe setting than a home environment, because its main goal is to ensure consistent distribution prior to tamping. When you have multiple baristas prepping drinks, this tool ensures that every shot gets distributed the same way, reducing inter-barista variation. For the home enthusiast, this prevents you from getting espresso powder all over your finger if you're used to distributing that way.

It's just a fun gadget to incorporate into my espresso prep workflow, and it truly does what it's meant to in terms of distributing the upper part of the puck (note: this will NOT replace WDT if that's necessary for you to ensure equal particle size distribution throughout the portafilter).

Works great

Awesome for delivering a consistent and level puck for tamping time and time again.

One of the nicest distribution tools on the market.

What is not to love about this tool. Beautiful craftsmanship and very solid (and heavy). It works great and after using it for a while I noticed that my espresso extractions (by observing through a bottomless portafilter) are more even and I experience less channeling.

Thanks Alan!
