THIRD WAVE WATER Espresso Machine Profile Sachets

I've done some espresso water tasting testing and third wave truly makes a difference. It's been essential for my coffee cart and at home use.

Easy to use, simple, and no effort required. To have the peace of mind that I am using the best possible water for my drinks, that is also going to be the best for my machines longevity, is nice. I'm by no means a tasting expert, but I do believe I can taste a difference in my espresso since starting to use this in the water.

Take care of your espresso investment by using treated water in your machine. 5 gallon sachets are my preference for making a lot of treated water at one time.

It's the obvious choice for espresso machine owners who don't want to design their own water. Even with a pre-packaged option like this, there's lots of room for experimentation - I like to run my machine at 40% concentration.

Reducing the amount of solids we pump into our espresso machines is vital with the water as hard as it is here. I think if you want to make your espresso machine last you should use this despite any potential difference in taste. For me, with a shot of Doppelganger from Phil & Seb there was a difference. There was "more coffee" flavour to the shot with this than without. It isn't inexpensive, however. Between flushing the grouphead and purging the steam wand, a gallon of water doesn't quite go as far as you might think.

Tastes great. I swapped from the light roast profile to this. I wouldn't say I have a refined palette, but it's definitely better than when I used to use spring water.

Great cost effective way to make good water

I’ve been using Third Wave for my all my coffee brewing methods. I just recently picked up an espresso machine and I will for sure use this one for that machine. Gotta have this in your tools for making coffee!!

Worth it for the convenience! Makes a huge difference in taste, and great to not have to worry about scale buildup

It's a little pricey but honestly, for how easy it makes the task of getting great water, I'm willing to pay for it. Not only is it recommended for the longevity of machines, it genuinely does make a difference to the coffee too. Would recommend.

The larger packets are a good value (still not as good as sourcing your own minerals and making your own mix, but that's less convenient).
I use about half the recommended amount (about 0.6-0.7g of mineral mix for 4L water) and it seems to work well for espresso AND pourovers.

It's hard to compare water for espresso machines (when I get the meticulous it should be easier to test and compare).
I did briefly try and compare with Perfect Coffee water, and for light roasts Perfect Coffee water it really made espresso smoother and really toned down the acidity (maybe I was pulling bad shots back then I dunno, but I liked the results) but unfortunately, like some other products (Lotus water etc) it contains Chlorides, which may be corrosive to stainless steel over time especially under high pressure and temperature like in a steam boiler (and can concentrate if you use the steam in a dual boiler, but don't use the water).

So this Chloride free formula is the safe and good option for espresso machines. I did briefly compare the Perfect Coffee Water a little for pour overs vs Third Wave Water and actually preferred the extra acidity/brightness in this Third Wave Water (espresso Formula).
VS Toronto Tap Water Filtered through a Britta, I think I noticed more punchier flavours for pour over with RO (or Distilled) water and Third Wave Water supplement added.

I believe more minerals or hardness affects the extraction efficiency so if you're finding you're over extracting using added minerals, you can compensate for that by adjusting some parameters like brew temperature etc, however I opt for just using less minerals which adds to the value since I'm able to make 2x the amount of water with the same minerals.

It is no lie that using this product makes your espresso more brighter compared to Tap water and is a definite need for RO water.

I’ll start by saying this stuff is really expensive for what it is. That having been said, when added to RO water, this stuff makes absolutely wonderful coffee.

So far so good, dissolves fairly readily in RO water. Noticing some flavor improvement vs softened tap water. Time will tell how well it protects boiler etc.

Found it hard to distinguish between shots pulled with TWW espresso and my regular tap water as far as the taste of the shot but these are still worth using to prevent damage to the machine.

I now realize that quality water is as important as quality coffee and quality coffee grinder.

Just mix with distilled water and go, as easy as that. Your espresso will surely thank you!

I have used about 20L/5G of Third Wave Water in my Rancilio Silvia so far. I confess that I have not done any side-by-side comparisons of taste, as it is a hassle to change out the water tank and get a consistent shot. However, I like the taste of my current shots, and I like knowing that this water is theoretically better for coffee. I have not experienced any issues, and my espresso tastes great. The only downside is one that is not really avoidable: I now spend a lot of time thinking about wasting this comparably expensive water. Now when I am purging the group head, temperature surfing, or thinking about decalcifying the machine, I am keenly aware that this water is more expensive and should be conserved as much as possible, which I wasn't worried about with filtered tap water. The solution was simpler with normal brewing: I have two kettles, one for third wave water and one for filtered tap water used to rinse filters etc. I am not aware for a comparable solution for my espresso machine. I suppose less water is required for espresso, so on a cost per cup basis, it may actually be comparable to brewing. I will probably continue to use third wave water for the time being, but especially if I can find a suitable way to either filter tap water, buy the water outright for cheaper, or make it myself, I will explore those options. This isn't really a problem with third wave water specifically, but an issue with more expensive water in espresso machines. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I live in a rural area with hard water. Too hard for my Linea Mini. Distilled or reverse osmosis is “better”, but in actuality too soft (corrosive). So, I’m using Third Wave because it protects my espresso machine better than my other options, but it also does taste better too. Only wish they sold a 12 pack of the “5 gallon” boxes. It’s expensive...
