The DF54 All-Purpose Coffee Grinder, equipped with flat burrs, inherits the exceptional features of the renowned DF64, celebrated for its superior grinding capabilities. Designed to deliver high-quality coffee grinds at an affordable price point, the DF54 seamlessly blends performance and value, with features you would only expect to see in more expensive grinders. As I’m an entry-level coffee enthusiast with just a bit of experience using higher-priced grinders, I’m excited to share my thoughts and opinions on the DF54.
Visually, I really like the sleek and elegant design. The grinder is more compact than the other grinders I’ve used so it’s nice that it needs less space on my counter. The grinder itself feels heavy and it’s obvious that it was constructed with high-quality materials. Overall, in aesthetics, I can see this grinder looking great with many different coffee setups. I’m glad I upgraded to the metal dosing cup (sold separately), as I personally prefer it over the standard plastic catch cup. Although I do find it oddly satisfying watching the plastic catch cup filling up. I love that the DF54 grinder has a step-less grind adjustment on the top. It’s easy to change, easy to read the numbers, and it clearly identifies which way to turn for a coarser grind.

Another notable characteristic of this grinder for me was the ionizer (or plasma generator) built into the exit chute to reduce static electricity. The air is so dry here in Calgary, we often struggle with static that causes increased retention when grinding coffee beans. Using this grinder, the retention seems to be as little as on the $700 grinder I tried, which I think is very impressive. I also noticed that the grinder performs even better during the static and retention tests in the review videos that I watched – they obviously live somewhere more humid than I do!
The grinder is quieter than I had expected, and the grind seems to be very consistent. I’m impressed with how fluffy the grinds are and I think it performs really well. The work flow is so simple, with only a few easy and intuitive steps. Once your grind adjustment is set, you just add in your beans and click the button on the side of the DF54 to begin.
Overall, as someone who appreciates coffee but does not fuss over the nitty gritty details, I think this grinder is absolutely worthwhile! I 100% choose the DF54 as a must buy. With a build and grind quality that are unmatched at its price point, it’s obvious to see why the coffee community loves the DF grinders so much.
