Wendougee Lita Review: A New Playground for Adventurous Home Baristas
If you’ve dabbled in specialty coffee, you’ve probably heard of the Wendougee Lita: a semi-automatic home espresso machine with a strikingly compact footprint and a sleek, minimalist housing.
The Lita marks Wendougee’s second venture into home espresso. The brand quickly earned reverence in the coffee community for its high-tech, commercial-grade approach. Following success in specialty cafés, it deftly crossed over to the home market with the debut of the Data S in late 2025.
This year, Wendougee came out with the Lita, condensing all the flavour customization and control of the Data S into a frame that fits on almost any countertop. And unlike the Data S, the Lita is not a direct-plumb machine, so you can skip the complicated installation process.
Eager to explore its flavour-profiling features, I recently took the Lita for a test drive. It got me thinking: is this machine reserved strictly for seasoned espresso lovers? Or, being semi-automatic, is the Lita also a learning opportunity for some home baristas to sharpen their skills?
Getting to know the Lita.

Don’t let its size fool you; the Wendougee Lita is hefty. Coming in at 22 kg (48.50 lbs), I certainly broke a sweat lugging the machine from my car onto my kitchen island. I shouldn't have been been surprised, however; Wendougee loyally adheres to commercial-grade and all-metal construction, even in home machines.
From there, I plugged it in, flipped the switch, and met two digital eyes staring back at me from the LED display.
As it idles, the Lita flips through multiple “scenes” that range from a sleeping face to Spider Man-esque eyes. After your shot pulls, it celebrates with an illustration of a latte surrounded by floating pixelated hearts. It makes no difference to the outcome of your espresso… but it’s undeniably adorable.

Speaking of its user interface and design, the Lita is purposefully simple, composed of a solid-metal construction and almost no physical touchpoints save a steaming button and the Intelligent Disc Control dial.
With much less to manage on the machine, there's less initial guessing of which knob, crank, or button does what. Instead, all elements of control are neatly organized inside a digital interface (more on that in a bit). And if you're a fan of a minimalist aesthetic, the Lita is certain to fit right into your kitchen.
Even the water reservoir is neatly tucked away. Rather than on the back or side of the machine, it’s hidden underneath the drip tray. I actually found the unusual placement more convenient; with a simple gooseneck kettle, I could replenish my water without having to remove the tank.
Don't let its simple appearance deceive you... the Lita is an incredibly complex home espresso machine under its surface, empowering you with surgically precise flavour control and customization. Most features are accessed digitally through the Wendougee E-bar app, and all you'll need is any tablet or smartphone with a Bluetooth connection.

It was quite amusing to control the espresso machine entirely from my device. Even from across the room, I could adjust the temperature on both boilers independently, create a pressure profile from scratch, or start pulling a shot.
How to use the E-Bar App.
If you’re new to the digital profiling game, it may take you a few attempts before feeling comfortable enough to go completely freestyle. However, once you know how to use it, the E-Bar app opens up a world of possible ways to customize your espresso.
It comes with two main menus: Easy and Professional. Even if you’ve dialled in thousands of espresso shots, I’d recommend starting with the former. If anything, it’ll help you find your footing before deep-diving into the fun stuff.
Easy Model
Easy Model is designed to simply pull a delicious shot of espresso. Instead of dealing with complex graphs and granular variables from day one, you can select one of many preset “curve cards” that span across the entire flavour spectrum, from a juicy Light Roast to the bold intensity of Traditional Italian.
Still, there’s some level customization. The Easy Model homescreen is where you can find and control big-picture aspects, like brew or steam temperature and default maximum pressure (up to 9-bar). It’s also where you can access the Lita’s hot water output, great for tea and Americanos, and where to turn each boiler on or off.
Professional Model
Professional Model is an espresso aficionados playground, a toolkit that gives you everything you need to build a custom pressure or flow-rate profile from scratch.
Recently, the Eight Ounce coffee team and I collaborated on creating a profile of our own. When we switched from Easy Model to Professional, I overheard a co-worker aptly capture the difference between the two in only a few words.
“If the last menu was automatic, this one’s like driving stick.”
In the Professional Model, you get total precision over every variable from pre-infusion to the duration, pressure, and total volume of your shot. You can also toggle between pressure and flow-rate priority, where you can customize time and milliliters per second.
The homescreen in Professional Model includes a notes tab, where you can record everything about your espresso such as its type (blend or single-origin), flavour profile, and roast level. And once brewing begins, you can log the coffee-to-water ratio, grind size, water temperature, and target extraction time.
The tab concludes with “flavour evaluation” fields, opportunities to assign a number from 1-9 to sensory details such as aroma, sweetness, acidity, and more. It’s like a coffee-logging notebook built into the user interface.
How to use the Intelligent Disc Control.

While the E-bar app is very useful for making micro-adjustments and tracking recipes, you can still access the Lita's pressure and flow-rate controls without a device.
The Intelligent Disc Control is a touch-sensitive interface found on top of Wendougee Lita groupheads. This manual controller lets you adjust pressure and flow-rate while the shot pulls, orchestrating unique flavour profiles on the fly.
Like a barista and DJ merged into one, you can ramp up or down by sliding your finger along either side of the dial. Two electromagnetic pumps regulate the pressure and flow-rate independently, so every small adjustment you make is immediate and impactful to your espresso.
The Intelligent Disc Control is great for spontaneous, hands-on experimentation into how small changes to pressure or flow-rate define a shot. Conversely, the E-Bar App offers a more structured way to dial in, fine-tune, and track your espresso recipes over time. Both are great tools, yet each serve slightly different workflow.
Three espressos, one profile.

The coffee
For our Eight Ounce brewing session on the Lita, we purposefully chose three coffees that are nothing alike. Interested in copying our recipe with the exact beans we used? Here's the official selection, containing one funky, bright, and comfortable flavour profile, respectively.
- Strawberry Coulis – Colourfull: a washed thermal-shock Red Bourbon from Colombia, with Strawberry Jam and Chocolate Raspberry tasting notes
- Peach Perfect - DAK: a washed Heirloom from Ethiopia with Peach and Apricot tasting notes
- Olympus – Traffic: A blend with Reese's Chocolate and Salted Butter Caramel tasting notes
The Recipe
After about an hour of experimenting and consuming much more espresso than is recommendable at 3 PM, we created a custom pressure profile that worked beautifully for all three espressos.
- Brew temperature: 95°C (203°F)
- Pre-infusion
- Duration: 10 seconds
- Pressure: 6 bars
- Extraction
- Duration: 20 seconds
- Pressure: 9 bars
- Volume: 35ml
- Overall
- Duration: 30 seconds
- Volume: 35ml
Our notes

Unsurprisingly, some beans were easier to handle than others. We started with Peach Perfect, a lightly roasted Ethiopian coffee that proved to be the toughest to dial in. Because it had a tendency to brew on the fast side, we were inspired to ramp up pre-infusion time to 10 seconds.
This ended up being the right move for all our coffees. With a longer pre-infusion time, vibrant aromas leapt out from the cup, and each sip finished with a lingering sweetness.
As for the favourite... we were split down the middle. Some had an affinity for the tea-like body and citrusy tasting notes of Peach Perfect, while I personally loved the Strawberry Coulis's raspberry-jam flavour.
My solo venture: whipping up a flat white.

After spending so much time with the Lita's advanced pressure and flow-rate profiling features, I was curious to know how it steamed not just dairy milk, but plant-based milk too.
Oat is always my go-to dairy alternative, and while many barista blends have come incredibly close to mimicking the texture of dairy milk, home espresso machines usually fall short when it comes to steaming them right. But in my experience, the Lita handled oat milk with speed and grace, producing a velvety smooth foam in only seconds.
What I admire most about the Lita's steaming function is that it's simple: set a temperature, press the button to start, and press again to stop. And thanks to the dedicated steam boiler, it only takes a second for the wand to kick into action. With the oat milk I had textured, I surprised myself with a stacked tulip... a design I'd only ever been able to achieve using a commercial machine.
The espresso I used was the Olympus by Traffic, the same "comfortable" roast used in our pressure profiling session, and opted for one of the Lita's pre-set "curve cards": Traditional Italian. An excellent match for the coffee's rich, chocolatey tasting notes.
Between my perfect milk and silky-smooth espresso, I crafted a flat-white that tasted like it'd come fresh off the hand-off bar at a specialty café. There was even a strong note of hazelnut, which I had not tasted before in the espresso alone.
Although you can absolutely use the Lita to make lattes, I'd suggest that it's exceptional for more delicate recipes that are meant to highlight and complement the flavour of espresso, such as flat whites, cappuccinos, and macchiatos.
Once more, the steaming function is simple; aside from duration, the only adjustable parameter is temperature... which I'll attest is all you need for manual steaming! There is no auto-stop feature on the Lita's steam wand, meaning you'll either need a milk thermometer or experience using touch to hit the perfect temp.
What to love (and what to note).
To love:
- Commercial-grade, compact build: The Lita's solid-metal construction gives the machine a noticeable professional quality that still fits on a countertop.
- Precise control: Advanced pressure and flow-rate profiling, backed by dual-boiler flexibility, give you unlimited freedom to discover and build custom flavours.
- Never lose your progress: The E-bar app has everything you need to track and improve your profiles, including a notes tab to record your recipes.
- Thoughtful aesthetic details: A sleek design, cleverly placed water reservoir, and charming pixel-art animations subtly elevate every interaction.
- Bluetooth connectivity: The Lita can link up wirelessly with the Wendougee Milo Play Single-Dose Grinder. Just select a brew recipe on the E-bar app, and the Milo will auto-adjust to a respective grind setting!
To note:
- Not well-suited for travel: weighing in at 22 kg (48.5 lbs), you won't want to move the Lita often.
- Steaming feature requires some finesse: Without an auto-stop steam wand, milk temperature and texture is strictly in your hands (or requires a thermometer). However in exchange, you get full control over the entire steaming process.
- Not for true beginners: To take full advantage of everything the Lita has to offer, it's best to have some prior experience with home espresso machines.
Conclusion: a gateway into the extraordinary world of espresso.

After putting the Wendougee Lita through its paces, including lengthy pressure-profile sessions with multiple espresso roasts, it was clear to see that the Lita packs serious commercial-quality muscle into its compact frame.
Who is the Wendougee Lita for?
In short, it's for the seasoned professionals and growing home baristas well into their journey, just about ready to make that next big upgrade into a lifelong machine.
Espresso, and particularly specialty espresso, can be intimidating when you start to unpack it; if you make all the right steps, a once sour or astringent shot can taste like raspberry candy and lemon iced tea. But it's easier said than done to get there.
If you've got the curiosity and a bit of experience, the Lita makes espresso a little more approachable and much more enjoyable. With Easy Model, you can test the waters and get delicious results, all without feeling obligated to plunge into the deep end.
And if you're an experienced espresso aficionado seeking out more customization and control, the Lita's Professional Model has everything you need to create unique flavour profiles with precision.
Because a basic understanding of espresso (including how pressure curves drive extraction) goes a long way, and the Lita may not be the best choice for beginners. But once you've gotten the fundamentals nailed down, it begins to grow with you, offering single-touch brewing today and an elaborate espresso lab tomorrow.
Final thoughts
Every year, the specialty coffee industry breaks new ground, pushing the boundaries of flavour while making world-class espresso more accessible than ever. Machines like the Wendougee Lita prove that you no longer need a bulky, $10,000 commercial setup to bring a true café-quality experience into your kitchen.
Ready to get the experience for yourself? Lucky for you, after months of anticipation the Wendougee Lita has finally landed in Canada. Happy brewing!
