BARATZA Virtuoso™+ Coffee Grinder (120V)

I have owned the BARATZA Encore for 5 years and really thought the basic model was all I needed...and of course it was! However, now that I have upgraded to the BARATZA Virtuoso I am feeling very spoiled and yet somehow, I feel that I deserve it! I love that I can set the timer and watch the coffee grind efficiently and perfectly into the lit up bin or walk away and let it turn off and have it ready when I need it. I don't drink espresso, I just use a regular coffee maker so this grinder is my one treat to myself when it comes to my coffee making morning ritual!
I am also thrilled to have discovered Eight Ounce Coffee in Calgary! I had many questions when I called to enquire about this purchase and I don't think I have ever received such patient and thorough answers. Service was impeccable and the delivery arrived very quickly...so nice that they are a Canadian company!
Oh, I asked about coffee makers too and now have my eyes on a very special sounding model the next time I decide to treat myself!

Overall I'm thrilled with this grinder. Once it was setup it was easy to use and provides me with a wonderfully consisistent grind. It is easy to adjust the grind level/size, the timer function is great and it has been a joy to use in the early morning (and at other times... but especially in the mornings!!).

I have two minor quibbles. The first is that the setup instructions were a bit vague. There is a part in the grinder that was detached when I received it. However, there was no indication in the setup instructions that indicated the part needed to be "clicked together" before setting up the grinder. This resulted in what I call the "Coffee Beans Everywhere and a Bean Hopper Tumbling to the Floor" effect. Once I noticed that the part wasn't completely "clicked" together I made the adjustments and things have been great.

The other quibble is that the canister for the ground coffee is plastic. Static is causing some of the ground coffee to stick to the edge of the canister and that results in a messy countertop (plus I do lose more coffee using this grinder compared to my Porlex hand grinder).

Overall hugely satisfied. Just a few quibbles.

My first good quality grinder (my blade grinder, while 25 years old and still going strong, is not of the same caliber). Have used the Baratza for moka (size 12), drip (20) and French press (28). I use a reusable cone filter for my drip and 18 left a little sediment but 20 works well. The Baratza is quieter than the blade grinder so I don't wake the house up in the early am, and I'm very happy with it! Eightounce coffee was excellent to deal with and delivery was fast.

The grinder works like a dream, with a wide range of options to grind for espresso, coffee and more. It’s not too noisy and just the right size for grinding a weeks worth of coffee. No complaints and I imagine it will hold up well over the years. Worth the investment!

I'm impressed with the Baratza Virtuoso +. Provides the uniform coffee grind you dial in from course to fine.

Works better than my old Encore that I replaced, even though I upgraded the burrs in the old machine. My only complaint is the new “timer” system. Be aware that this is (sort of) incompatible with their now-discontinued Esatto that I still use and enjoy. Using it with the Esatto involves running the Virtuoso through a cycle at 40s so it remembers the time; you can then use it with the Esatto except you have to let the Esatto turn the grinder on PLUS manually start the grinder, where with the old system this involved just one touch on the Esatto. A small niggle, easy work-around, otherwise it would be perfect for my setup.

The Baratza Virtuoso+ is a fantastic grinder. It's easy to use, gives a very exact grind, is reasonably quiet (at least compared to my old grinder) and leaves so little mess that after a couple of weeks of use, I still haven't cleaned around the base of the receptacle. I'm also very impressed with the service I received from Eight Ounce Coffee. I discovered them through an on-line search. Their response to my initial inquiry was quick and friendly so I didn't hesitate making my order. I received the coffee grinder within 5 days of placing the order.

After well over 20 years with A KitchenAid grinder, a machine that ground well but had a few minor things to have to deal with, I finally broke down and upgraded to this machine. The timer seems fussy to set, but boy is it a nice thing to have. I just love starting the machine and walking away confident I will get the right amount of well ground beans. Very uniform and wide range of settings. Eight Ounce Coffee was great to deal with.

Despite being only a couple of weeks prior to Christmas, and in the midst of a pandemic, we received very responsive service from Eight Ounce coffee. The grinder itself was easy to assemble; it grinds accurately and consistently, plus delivers an excellent cup of coffee!

Once installed correctly is a great addition to my morning routine

We have an espresso machine that is quite temperamental when it comes to coffee grinds and have tried numerous grinders over the years! This one solved every single issue with our espresso machine! Our whole family is grateful one of our local coffee shops recommended eight ounce coffees website!

I've had this for a few weeks now and I'm quite happy with it. Grind is very consistent, with few fines (even at the coarser settings). Compared to my previous grinder (a cheap Cuisinart from my university days), the retention is lower and there is much less static. I wouldn't say it's particularly loud, but it definitely wakes the dog up. I use it mainly for pour-over and the occasional French press, and it works well for both. I don't think this would be ideal for espresso given that there are relatively few steps in the espresso range (which would make it difficult to dial in shots), but you could probably get away with it. Planning on picking up a 270Wi as a dedicated espresso grinder in the near future, and will keep this for drip/French press.

using this grinder with mt ratio coffee maker resulted in the best tasting coffee I have brewed. I was surprised at the difference.

This grinder has been an excellent addition to our home coffee setup. We appreciate that there is a large range of grind settings available. We have been able to make excellent espresso, pour over and aeropress!!

It was good to very good . . . . . I don't know if I would say outstanding. If it would do more to self-clean and if the hopper were bigger, I think I would like it more . . . lot of work to clean up after only a few ounces of grind. However, with the No. 20 grind, I instantly had a better cup of coffee . . . . . instantly. I could actually taste the difference. I love my coffee even better.

Upgrading from a Breville burr grinder, the Virtuoso+ feels like a Mercedes vs a Honda Civic... Nice looking and effective, I like it very much. The best thing: the grind consistency is very very good, you can feel the difference when you brew, it makes awesome coffee. It's not as fast as expected (some beans are jumping around when the hopper is almost empty and not going through without stopping the engine so they can fall down the burrs and start it again so it can "chew" them finally... a little annoying thing to me as I only put the quantity of beans I need at each time. Also, please beware that it is a quite noisy machine even if they say it's more quieter than other models... waking up the kids in the early morning is still inevitable with this device. Otherwise, it does its job with precision and this is what I needed the most!

This is my first burr grinder, but I am satisfied and impressed with its performance. The unit is easy to use when rotating the hopper to different grind settings. The timer dial is also a nice feature. Once you find the approximate amount of time needed to grind your desired amount of coffee, you can just hit the button to repeat the dose day-after-day since the machine remembers your last setting. I’ve been using this feature and it seems pretty darn consistent when grinding for drip. The grinds bin area is illuminated with two LEDs, and I particularly appreciate that all the lights power-off after a minute or so when not in use.

Compared to my previous Mr. Coffee blade grinder, the Virtuoso+ is fast and rather quiet (as far as coffee grinders go). It is a bit larger and heavier than I had anticipated. I feel like it is meant for a small cafe - that I should be storing a bag of beans in the hopper, not grinding for just myself each morning. The machine has a substantial feeling on the counter, but it could be a problem for those with limited kitchen space since it is also rather tall with the hopper attached. There is a long, heavy-duty power cord, but with no way to store it under the machine you may also have to sacrifice some counter space here.

The plastic parts are hand washable (hopper, grounds bin, gasket). I find daily operation to be a tad messy. Some grounds do cling to the hopper and bin or cascade down from the chute and end up on your countertop. The bin fit is a bit tight so you will likely knock some grounds about even when just removing and replacing it. My only real complaint is that the base is not removable on this unit, though it looks like it should be. There are some gaps in the casing underneath where the bin sits and grinds tend to collect here. The only way to remove them is by vacuuming. I’m not sure why Baratza didn’t just add a removable rubber tray since it on their other grinder models.
