technivorm coffee maker brew automatic

Automated coffee maker praised for consistent, quality brewing with minimal effort. Customers said it's "simple" and "efficient" with even spray head distribution. Concerns include durability issues after ~11 months and residual water in tank causing fogging. Easy 3-step operation, compact design, includes warming plate.

DO NOT BUY

Great for about 11 months, then completely fails to turn on our brew. This is the second time I have purchased one of these brewers, and both times ended in complete failure

Love my Ottomatic 2

It's simple. It's efficient. I had been using the Chemex carafe and doing a manual pour-over. It made great coffee, but it was a little labour intensive. The Ottomatic 2.0 is a 3 step process. Fill the carafe with water to the leather thong, pour it into the reservoir, hit the start button. The coffee is consistent and perfect every time. The machine is compact and stylish, not loaded with complicated bells and whistles. It's a little pricey, but worth the expense, given it's quality and reliability.

Good machine

Seems to be very well made, solid, and heavy. Makes good coffee quickly and so much easier than boiling and pouring over grounds with a single carafe. Also enjoy the warmer on the base. No need to heat up each cup.

Great Unit

I got this to replace the Bonavita Coffeemaker I used before. This is a very nice unit and I especially like the spray head - very even - makes great coffee very consistently.

Mostly as expected

I bought this coffee maker with the goal to get consistent results with a Chemex, without the work and time needed to control the brewing process manually. The Ottomatic 2.0 does live up to that expectation. High-quality coffee cups with minimal effort, overall satisfied with the purchase. It is very easy to use. The appliance does look good and it is not big, so it may fit even if counter space is somehow limited. The water tank is in plastic, but it does not look cheap.

The biggest issue for me is that there is always some residual water in the tank after the brew. If you leave the tank cover on, the water tank gets foggy as the humidity apparently can't escape from it. Also, even after waiting several minutes once the brewing is over, sometimes water spills from the "shower head" into the hot plate when you remove the carafe from its place to serve the coffee and then you may need a paper towel to dry the plate off.

The only option to control the flow rate is by using or forgoing the provided brew clip. You mostly have to play with the coffee grind size and coffee-to-water ratio to achieve optimal results. Original Chemex filters are significantly more expensive than your generic supermarket brands, but the difference in taste is easily discernible. Melitta № 4 Bamboo filters also do the trick (they do not collapse into the carafe), but the resulting coffee will be bitterer and oilier.

Finally, despite the huge delays with the UPS delivery (COVID-19 possibly to blame), the meticulous wrapping by the Eight Ounce team ensured the delivery of the glass carafe in pristine condition.

A great pour-over without the arm workout!

"Took this brewer home a little while ago and I have almost no complaints so far! The set-up is the same as a traditional Chemex, but there's no need to stand around and add the water for a minute and a half - just rinse your filter, weigh out 60 g of ground coffee, fill the water tank to the 6 cup line. and flick the power switch. Come back in about 4 minutes, and you've got a full Chemex full of coffee! I love the consistency and the overall quality, and my non-coffee-nerd partner uses it and loves not having to fuss over it.

My only grumble is more with automatic brewers in general, compared to brewing by hand, and it's to do with the water tank. It seems like there's always a small amount of water left behind in the tank at the end of the brew, which stops the element from overheating. I'm curious how accurate your water weight/volume can be when this is the case. I've found that I've gotten quite a consistent and delicious cup so far, but my perfectionist brain doesn't like not knowing my exact specs! The one that I have at home is actually the first version (not the 2.0), so it's possible that they've addressed this in the new version, but I'm not sure.

I'd definitely recommend this brewer if you want something that looks great, doesn't take up a lot of space on the counter, and makes a great cup of coffee without a lot of effort!"
