CoffeeSock HARIO V60-02 Filter

Used to the Able Kone and paper filters but decided to try something new. The sock extracts faster than both kone and filters, around 1.5 mins instead of 2 mins for a 16g dose, but no compromise on taste. Just boil 10mins before first use and rinse after using. Re-boil after 4-5 uses and it's good as new. The flavour of coffee is about the same as Kone and easier and cheaper to clean, glad I switched!

I love that this filter is reusable; cleaning isn't too much of a hassle either. Just dump, rinse, and pop it in the fridge or freezer. I find that if you do a little triangle fold near the top instead of right where the crease is, it fits better in the cone; nice and flat.

I wasn't sure what to expect but was looking to stop having to purchase new paper filters repeatedly. I actually prefer the flavour from using the sock filter - paper filters were too bright for me.
Rinsing and drying are easy. Not fussy at all. If left hanging, the filter dries within an hour or two and then I put it away until the next morning.

A superb product for those trying to cut down on consumer waste, and every day costs. ITS VERY EASY TO CLEAN!!! Which I love so much, and above all the flavour of the coffee seems to be perfect if not better!

It's easy to clean and very reusable. I use it every day and I've had no problems with held taste.
I just give it a good boil from time to time.

I have used paper filters for a long time. I gave these a try because I wanted to reduce the amount of paper filters I use. Able to get more flavor with clarity.

Bought the cloth filter to get more oils and heavier body in my coffees and it works great.
Do not buy for environmental reasons because it requires a lot of water to rinse out and clean. Buy for a different taste in coffee.
I recommend keeping the filter in a jar filled with water in the fridge after cleaning and to immediately clean after brewing.
Last is to urnex the cloth filter to clean coffee residue after every few months.

As the title says, these are great re-useable filters, but definitely not for the V60s. After using them continuously for 2 weeks, I can say with confidence they'll work well for pourover designs where the side are completely smooth (like a Chemex, which these actually do fit well!), but not pourovers like the V60 where there are intentional ridge designs that affect the brewing. The reason is that coffeesocks are much too thick because of their double layer design, which completely washout the ridges and make them unnoticeable. I always wet the filters with boiling water prior to adding my coffee grounds as a standard pourover technique, and even with that I cannot hand mold the coffeesock to the ridges.

For those curious to experiment this fact themselves, try using these coffeesocks with a regular V60, and then with the Kasuya variant of the V60. When using paper filters, the brew technique and experience are very different. With coffeesocks, they are identical (try it for yourself!).

For best results to extend the life of your coffeesocks, boil them for at least 10 min. after a couple of uses (washing them with just hot water inbetween these boiling moments), and store them in the freezer (don't air dry per factory instructions).

Don't have to do compromise on coffee taste, this alternative makes great coffee and it's good for the environment. Buy it!

A great alternative to paper filters and getting two in the package means you will always have one in rotation.

Great product: comes with a spare, well price, nicely sewn, colour avoids it looking stained immediately. Fits v60 perfectly and love the coffee from it. Nice body, less acidic than the paper. Tried this after hearing that you can freeze the sock to avoid mildew, and it seems to be doing fine with me freezing in a ziploc and defrosting with hot water each time. Very happy with the purchase!

High quality alternative to paper, but will require a bit of tweaking compared to paper as the flow rate is much faster. Most times I use this for my camping setup without the V60 itself, just wrap the filter over a mug and pour the water in and let it steep for a few minutes. Quick rinse to clean up when done then I put it in a small jar with water into the cooler.

Just shake into the trash, rinse, wring until damp, pop into a Ziploc, and into the freezer. Rinse under warm water to de-freeze. It flows very quickly - faster than the videos I've watched of paper filters, anyway. (Yes, this is my first V60 filter.) I do wish the bloom time would last a bit longer - it's almost drained after 30 sec. Doesn't seem to matter though, as the coffee tastes fine to my plebian palette.

I brew 15g of pretty finely ground coffee to about 250g of boiling water, and it's plenty strong. Perhaps too strong for me.

10/10. Would buy again, but I probably won't have to. :)

These Coffeesocks are a great alternative to the V60 paper filters. The fit is great. So far, however, they have produce a consistently "weaker" cup of coffee event after adjusting grind size. I will have to perfect my recipe. Don't expect to use your regular paper filter recipe and obtain the same results.

What must be noted is that Coffee Socks are an alternative, not a perfect replacement for paper filters.
The Coffee Sock may imbue a slight off-flavour for your first few uses, but that fades fairly quickly after uses and rinses. On that note, the need to dump my used grinds from the filter after use is a bit of a nuisance as I have to let the filter cool down before I can clean up my brewing gear. Besides that, dumping, rinsing and hanging to dry is simple and easy!
The Coffee Sock in my experience also increases flow rate greatly over a paper filter. It requires a bit of trial and error in adjusting your recipe and method to get your coffee back to tasting (as close as possible) the way you like it. You may not get an identical taste to paper, maybe with particular notes jumping out more than usual, but it makes great coffee!

All in all, the Coffee Sock takes a little bit to get used to, but it is a great alternative and I like not having to worry about running out of paper filters!
