You get what you pay for ❤️

You get what you pay for. After years of using a little electric spice mill to grind coffee for my French Press, I decided to treat myself to an electric burr grinder. I had just switched to using an AeroPress coffee maker. The electric burr grinder was a spontaneous choice without careful investigation. I did a quick Google search, and the grinder had reasonable reviews, and it was on sale. It was cheap, and the results were a huge disappointment. The grind setting on ht echeap electric grinder made no difference; a fine, powdered coffee accumulated in the coffee container and mixed with the coarser, inconsistent grind, and the static resulted in coffee all over my counter. The coffee was weak, and I ended up adding more coffee to get a decent result. But then it just tasted bitter. So, I stopped and did some proper research. As I now use an AeroPress maker, I only need enough coffee for one serving. That's when I discovered the world of hand grinders and Eight Ounce Coffee. I settled on the Chestnut S3 Grinder. It's perfect for my needs. It's a thing of beauty in itself. I was shocked at how dark and rich the coffee was when I made my first cup of AeroPress coffee, and I am now using less coffee for a far better result. I love this thing.

Excellent grinder

This is our first experience w/ a hand grinder. Thank you to the fantastic Eight Ounce crew for helping us select this superb tool. So far, our experimentation has gone well. Consistent grind, intuitive, elegantly designed.

Great grinder

This is my first higher quality manual grinder. My previous grinder did not have any grind settings so the grind was all over the place, from fine to coarse. I've had the grinder less than a week but so far I'm loving it.

Great!

In my case it's a huge upgrade from a Prolex II to this. After lots of thiniking and comparing, this is the best option if you want something good and affordable.

Premium grinder at an amazing price point.

First off, this grinder is absolutely stunning in the Festival Red colour. The external dial feels premium and the foldable handle keeps things compact in my small kitchen where space is a premium.
When using the grinder I was a bit worried about the comfort of the straight handle vs the bent style you see on many other grinders that lowers the hand below the top of the grinder. This grinder still feels comfortable but I definitely prefer the other style…not a dealbreaker though.
The upgraded S2C burrs on this unit are noticeable improvement from the c2s I’ve used before.
I am only using this for pour over so I can’t comment on the finer grind capabilities, but this grinder has everything I need and more…and all for an absolute steal of a price.

Good grinder

Good grinder. Only complain is when handle is attached the base is not designed to keep the grinder standing straight which can be annoying.

Worth it

I recently picked up this grinder to upgrade my C3, and I’m really enjoying it. It’s giving me fantastic shots with the booth pour-over and espresso. The external adjustment makes it so easy to use, and the build feels very sturdy and durable.

Overall a very solid grinder

Overall a very solid grinder. The clarity of the cup is really high. Very little effort needed to grind, even on finer settings. Would definitely recommend, especially since the price has dropped!

Elegant

Very nice looking and well-made device. Solid and quality construction. Grinds come out very well for French. Press. Collapsible handle is a very nice feature and works smoothly. Only wish that it was slightly easier to turn the handle when grinding; some strength is required to keep it steady. With that said, this is my first hand grinder, so that could be inherent to this type of device.

Solid grinder

I had been looking for a decent hand grinder for our special coffee. Was referred to "8ounce Coffee" and found this one. Talked to staff who were very helpful and knowledgeable. This grinder is very solidly built, stainless rather than ceramic and has nearly endless grind settings. Only used setting for espresso and it worked perfectly. Seems like it will last a long time. Only a 4 since it was not an inexpensive grinder.

Love It!

This is my first hand grinder and it exceeds my expectations! It’s absolutely gorgeous, solid, and well made. This grinder is easy to grind and gives a consistent grind. It takes me 1 minute to grind 30g (slowly to avoid any heat from friction). Given I live in a dry climate (Prairies) there are fines left in the grinder and base from static electricity that need to be brushed out - only a small annoyance tho. A shorter handle would be a bit more comfortable and easier to use but I do love how easily it folds. Be aware that the grinder dial can easily be accidentally moved if you hold the grinder near the top; I just double check the setting before grinding. Despite these few “cons”, overall I would highly recommend this grinder especially for its larger hopper capacity, price, and quality.

Good investment

I've had the grinder only for a short while, so the review may not touch on all points with the same depth. Compared to the 1zpresso X-ultra, it's heavier and bigger (taller and larger diameter). The capacity is larger than the X-ultra. It's well made and the bottom cup screws and unscrews fast and easily. The dial has only one rotation, so it's easy to go back and forth, but it shifts rather easily. I like the folding handle, very convenient for storage. The red grinder looks absolutely gorgeous!

Great filter grinder, especially for starters!

The S3 is a great grinder that produces minimal fines, and doubly so for the price! As someone who has recently begun to explore filter coffee in greater depth, this grinder has enhanced my coffee experience from taste right down to the grinding process. I cannot speak for espresso grinds, but if you are just starting to dip your toes into specialty filter coffee, this is an amazing and affordable option that will never get in the way of a good cup. Do make sure you don’t bump the grind size dial while you are grinding though!
